Treetop Kids
Occupational Therapy
Treetop Kids is a Belfast based Independent Occupational Therapy service for pre-school & primary school children (aged 3-11). Our aim is to help children to develop the necessary skills to access learning opportunities, have success in everyday activities and achieve positive outcomes by empowering children, parents, carers and education staff.

Helping Children to grow and achieve success.

At Treetop Kids we use a simple tree as a visual representation of the many skills involved in achieving success in learning opportunities and everyday activities. We recognise that trees come in different shapes and sizes and grow at different rates, just like children.

The Soil
This is the place from which trees extract nutrients to ensure they grow adequately. It represents the child’s environment.
The Root
Tree roots are often underground and out of sight. They provide the link between the soil and the tree; providing many pathways to feed the tree. When the roots of the tree have taken hold, the visible parts of the tree start to develop and the roots continue to grow into a complex and integrated system.  They represent a child’s sensory system.
The Trunk
A tree trunk is a solid base providing strength and stability from which many other parts of the tree grow and develop. It represents a child’s motor development and includes their gross motor skills.
THE BRANCHES
Tree branches develop in different directions and reach out to many different parts of the environment around the tree. They represent a child’s perceptual- motor development and includes fine motor and visual perception skills.
THE LEAVES
The leaves of a tree are always at slightly different stages of development, some fully grown, some just emerging, but they make up a vital part of the tree; interacting further with the environment to provide continued growth of the tree. The leaves represent several different skills - attention & listening, receptive & expressive language, social & emotional, organisation, self-care.
THE TREETOP
The treetop is where children blossom and bear fruit; achieving success and independence, exploring creativity and developing relationships.
